The Association 'Time For Livin' 2024 Remix: Balanced Vocals, Full Stereo Stage for Better Sound

Recently, I listened to this song again and was reminded that every version I've heard lacks center information. The vocals and instrumentation are panned either extreme left or right, with nothing in between. The lead vocal is peculiarly placed to the extreme left. Inspired by this, I decided to remix this uplifting, optimistic song from 1968, presenting it with a more conventional stereo mix.

My remix adheres to the basic conventional mixing practices of the 1960s era. I have moved the lead vocal, drums, and bass to the center, giving the drums a slight stereo spread. The backing vocals are now spread across the stereo stage for a more immersive, naturally balanced sound. The guitar is now on the right, while the piano and trumpet are on the left. For those who have enjoyed this song over the years, headphone listening should now be more satisfying.

This is purely a de-mixing of the vocals and instrumentation, followed by a remixing of those elements without using pseudo-artificial acoustics. Nothing new has been added that wasn't part of the original recording.

Thank you for listening!

Amazing stuff. A song from this great album which begs for such treatment is "Like Always".

Thanks for the deconstruction/reconstruction, and another "WOW! Haven't heard this song in ages" moment. Always liked the Association.

I adore this song. The bass is so stellar.

As for The Association: An underappreciated vocally fantastic group.

Just a wonderful song and video! Saw them in concert in 68 and 72. I will never forget them. RIP ~ Brian Cole, Larry Ramos and recently Terry Kirkman. Thanks so much for this.

I'm surprised you this this mix, most people don;t know the minor LP tracks of the Association and this one is a gem. What I liked, you mixed just like the way it would be heard on 60's radio. If you can do a remix of "Birthday Morning" that would probably sound great wth your mix, that is one song that I love but it's recorded classicly meaning the vocals are high EQ and the back tracks are low but it was neccessary for them to do it that way because of the spitrual vibe of the song but it would be interesting to hear you mix that song.

Another great vocal (sang in unison) by Russ Giguere and Larry Ramos. They sang "Windy" in unison, as well.

A song screaming out for your talented remixing skills is Day After Day by Badfinger. Every mix I have found is a muddled mess - except for the George Harrison slides.

So blatantly Joe Osborn (bass), James Burton (guitar), and Hal Blaine (drums).

Just sayin’
