After receiving much feedback as to why I chose to grade now, and why I chose the S8, Ive put together a feature demonstration highlighting current versus new. This includes some options in-between that may save you money if you do not require all of the bells and whistles.

I like your style of vacuum review vs the other guys. Keep it up.

Thanks so much for bringing a stare, and compare between the different versions

I started with a Roomba 600 which I call the "Ray Charles " of vacs. That thing beat all the paint off all the trim in my house with its hit and run navigation. I bought the S5Max and love it! It never touches anything and can see obstacles in its way. The mopping is not very good but I have over 2500 sq feet of hardwood that I am not going to mop by hand thanks to the Roborox. The Romba I named Rosie and the Roborox is named Rocko.

Yeah, had the s9+ since release - and it's unfortunately been obvious for years that iRobot have been living mainly on brand recognition.
Now with the S8 pro ultra, it's night and day. I don't fear that it will knock over side-tables with potted plants, delicate floor lamps or overturn and drag around every rug in the apartment (even after Roomba-proofing them). It just works, does it carefully and finishes with a light mopping that I didn't know I needed but now quite appreciate.
Your earlier video was what swung it for me, great stuff. 😀
(That I managed to snag it for the equivalent of your $1399 was also very nice)

The s9+ (or i7+) was the first robot vacuum I would even consider to buy due to auto empty. Now I know that the s8+ (minus mopping) is the robot I actually expected to get back then.

I bought the Bissell Spinwave back in April of 2021. I chose it for a couple reasons, those being supposedly Bissell is "known" for doing a decent job on pet hair, I had a gift card from work that about covered the price of it, and being the first foray into robotic vacuums, I didn't want to spend a lot. Supposedly it has "structured navigation", but the dumb things I've seen it do doesn't convince me it does anything but slam into obstacles. The other night I watched it bump into a wall repeatedly that had no obstacles for 4 feet on either side of it (I got tired of it and kicked it into a new heading). I've seen where it can't find the dock, and it eventually dies in the middle of the room (who knows, maybe the IR content of the LED lighting confuses it?). And just other weird navigation decisions that result in poor coverage. Maybe Bissell licensed Roomba's navigation software, they seem to have similar behaviors.

Heck I wanna know if I should upgrade from my 18 yr old Dyson and 5 yr old Swiffer mop! I know I’m getting too old to do this work myself.

Very nice comparison, thanks, and it's clear that your words are .. genuine .. since it lloks like you really purchased both (irobot* and roborock) by yourself beliving in them at that moment.
Question:
Can s8 be used for mopping only at night? Does it do a lot of noise? (the robot itself or the mop-cleaning or base-station when mopping it's finished)

I have a Roomba J7+ Combo, the J7+ (no mop), a ECOVACS T8, and the roborock S8 Pro Ultra. And you are correct about the J7+ Combo, the mop was an afterthought and the firmware is buggy. The only 2 things the J7+ are great at are they are the best with very high pile carpet (taller than 5/8”) and obstacle avoidance, but oddly it still bumps into many walls. The S8 is better at everything else…

Have you tested or know if the Roborock can vacuum without issues tile floor that has slope of about 20 degrees from living room to kitchen?

Good comparison and clearly iRobot needs to get back in the game.
But, you completely ignored the reason I just ordered the S9+/m6 combo: privacy.
I”m not going to let an internet connected camera run around my home.
Yes, they say the delete the pictures, but I won’t let them even send them across the wire.
What I didn’t know until after I had ordered is that the j7+ camera apparently works even if you block it from sending over internet, so it actually processes the pictures locally. Strange that iRobot doesn’t promote that.
However, I still prefer no camera, which is why I picked the S9+.
