First time I heard this song I didn't think much of it but God damn the show really made something out of it and it really grew on me

I don't know why, but it's weird that Night City was a very futuristic and advance city. But it has the same vibe like Mega City One from Judge Dreed where living on the city outskirt (which both basically a wasteland) was better than living in the city itself

It’s been striking me as odd that so many people treat David’s story after meeting Lucy as a tragedy that could have ended happily but for bad decisions and poor luck.

Unless I’m missing something the kid was:
1. Fresh-made orphaned
2. Destined for *at best* a dead-end corporate drone job at Arasaka
3. Probably going to get kicked out the Academy anyway
4. Absolutely at-risk for self-unaliving (he absolutely had no reason to expect to survive the implantation)
5. Within several hundred miles of Night City in any capacity

From the moment Gloria died David was on a borrowed timer that was getting awful close to done, and Lucy and Maine’s crew gave him reason, resource, and opportunity to keep going the entire rest of his time. Yeah that time was *made* of unhealthy coping mechanisms and lifestyle choices, but with that time he made friends, took out some seriously bad people, and bloodied Arasaka enough that two of their most valued assets at the time both got tossed far out of their reach.

After the opening David was never going to have a happy ending, but damn did he give what he could to get Lucy a chance at one.

It's still crazy to me how two songs capture the entire vibe of the show

This is so well made. "Dead just like disco" starts with Maine and goes into "zero zero zero" as we see the others get zeroed. "I don't have no ego" shows even tertiary characters dying meaningless deaths. "Heart is growin colder" follows the first time David killed of his own desire. And then back into David going through the motions.
