Jimmy Carter on his legacy

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has died. In 1997, he reflected on his legacy in an interview with CNN’s Larry King.

As a kid, I noticed that he and his wife were very kind people and liked them. My grandmother loved president Carter. She would always say he’s a good man. I think so too. Rest now Mr. President and thank you and your family for being great representatives of the United States and great examples of how to just simply be a decent human being.

Jimmy Carter was right here near the projects in Miami for many years building houses for the underprivileged. Very nice and humble. He wasn't a phoney. He was a genuine humanitarian. He kept the veterans housed under his administration. It was under the Reagan administration, that they got rid of free housing for disabled veterans, crack flooded the streets(ruined so many lives and crime rate skyrocketed). Under Bush sr., he continued Reagan"s mess. Got so bad, an unknown politician named Bill Clinton won the election over him when he seeked a second term. Bill Clinton got the country back on track and his vice president got cheated by Bush jr.

He was what a President of the US should aspire to be. Humble, determined, compassionate, honest, respectful, dedicated, empathetic, decent, statesmanlike. He personified what it means to give back and selflessly provide service to country and community. He was everything the current President elect is not. We need many more just like President Carter.

I was always so impressed with his straightforward honest manner, and continued public service to broker peace, negotiate release of Americans held in foreign countries, and charitable works like for Habitat for Humanity. He walked the talk.
