Slamming tailgates are a problem. “Soft Open” tailgate kit installation! The Orion Motor Tech Tailgate Assist shock is a great tailgate accessory. Some newer trucks offer tailgates that open slowly. in this video I show you how to install an aftermarket soft open tailgate assist shock. This do it yourself tailgate shock can be installed in less than 20 minutes. This is a beginner friendly installation and requires minimal tools.

Let me know the year and make of your truck when you answer this question👉 Does your truck tailgate slam open or open slowly?

Obviously, my truck did not come with a tailgate damper or slow open tailgate assist shock. I truly was surprised to find out that the fix was only about $20 and holy crap was it easy!

I use my hand and arm to slowly lower it. I'm in my sixties and have been doing this amazing technique my entire life.

I have an ‘02 f250 I bought twenty years ago. This is one of the first mods I put on it because the tailgate was very heavy. The new trucks are all aluminum with very light tailgate.

Thanks for the tutorial. I was looking at the OEM version of this, but didn't want to spend the $50+ on one. This looks like it will be useful when your hands are full, and you have to let the gate down doing that hip/knee contortion thing. This one is a lot less money than OEM. I just bought one for $17 and will give it a try.

Just undo the latch and hold onto the tailgate as you let it down. Been doing it this way for years and years.

I just just hold onto mine but its everyone else that just lets it drop and the 2 cables cost about $ 40.00 dollars to replace people really piss me off just because they are to dam lazy to let the tailgate down easy
