In Victoria, British Columbia Premier John Horgan outlines his government’s four-step plan to gradually lift public-health measures that are in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He is joined by Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, as well as provincial ministers Ravi Kahlon (jobs, economic recovery and innovation) and Adrian Dix (health). Restrictions in the province will be eased over the coming months based on vaccination rates, case numbers, and hospitalizations. Step one begins on May 25, with the resumption of indoor dining for groups of up to six people with safety protocols. Recreational travel is allowed, but still only within travel regions. Other measures include new limits for indoor and outdoor gatherings, the resumption of outdoor sports games with no spectators, and the return of indoor in-person faith-based gatherings at reduced capacity. The provincewide mask mandate remains in place. Step two is expected to start June 15 at the earliest date, step three on July 1 at the earliest, and the final step is expected to begin September 7 at the earliest.
