Climate change will have a substantial impact on Asia-Pacific security, both by exacerbating existing regional tensions and creating new areas of contention.

Rising sea-levels directly affect defence institutions, in particular by jeopardising military facilities in coastal or island locations. Regional armed forces are examining how to reduce their own climate footprints. This special session will examine how climate change is affecting regional security, the implications for armed forces in terms of operations and procurement, and how defence establishments can play a stronger role mitigating the climate crisis.
