Grind Your Chain Like a Pro With These Tips!!!

I show everything you need to know about grinding a chainsaw chain. A properly ground chainsaw chain can cut as good or better than a filed chain. I show how the chain cuts before and after grinding. I don't swap chains like other guys do.

By far the best tutorial on electric chainsaw sharpeners on YouTube. Great work and thank you so much, super helpful

This is a very good video tutorial. I didn't realize that the better chain grinders had more adjustability to them. I thought they were just more robust. In the future I will be looking for a better chain sharpener, and thanks to this video, I now know what to look for in a quality chain grinder. Right now I'm just using a Harbor freight chain grinder and it seems to be doing the job OK. It's much better, more accurate and faster than I can do with a hand file. That Super Jolly is a really nice chain sharpener but a bit too rich for me. If I ran a chain saw everyday, it would be a different story, but I'm really just a weekend warrior that does his own firewood as the firewood becomes available.

People who use a grinder like a chop-saw know nothing about grinding chains.. and they're typically the same people who say that they can hand-file a sharper tooth better than ANY grinder. Its a tool, the operator sharpens the tooth.. and like any tool, the skill of the operator determines the quality of the finished work

Hi Tractor Tec - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Enjoyed the video greatly. I tried to file for 40 years and never could get the consistency I craved so finally admitted I wasn't man enough for the job. I bought a grinder and have never looked back. I use all Oregon chain and bring 3 or 4 to a cutting session and just swap them out if needed. I sharpen at 10 degrees with chisel at 25 and semi-chisel at 30. I converted my machine to wet grinding using cutting coolant that I recycle and now get consistent and reliable results.

Good day Roger. I wanted to thank you for all the detail and effort you have shared with us over the last couple of years on how to maintain your saws. I have learned a lot of things I never knew from watching your videos. Thanks pal!

Great information. I just ordered my new Oregon grinder and video like this is very helpful. It was out of focus so often that it made it very hard to understand what exactly what you were doing though

I have heard that if you reverse the rotation of the motor when grinding the near side teeth you get a better grind. Also watch the vertical axis as the stone wears it will change the relationship with the tooth. Never saw one slide back and forth for the tilt, that would mess with the vertical axis too, but that is how it makes the tilt.

So the 25 degree angle and then the 10 degree is that …. 10 degrees pressed down or 10 degrees put up. I have Stihl chains and just want to make sure I’m following you correctly. Just ordered a grinder today.
Great video. Much appreciated.

Good evening Sir, you have a great introduction 👍🧐😊 For me Sir, as long that the chain is cutting and sharped is THE important thing. So what ever you use is fine by me 👍 For me, I hand fill it and also I'm a poor man on a budget but most of all I like it doing it like that and I swear to you that I do not change my chains on my videos Sir 🙏🤣👍 Yes the height of the cutters is very important 👍😊 Great demonstration Sir and great video 😊👍 Keep warm Sir Cheers !!!

Informative video, Roger. The sharpened chain cut like butter with less cutting resistance. Yep, I could notice you let go of the grip to show how easily it cut through the log. Thanks for showing the angles of your chain grinding cuts. It is difficult to get my camera to focus. I use an old Samsung insta point-n-shoot DSLR camera that works when it wants to work not when I want it to work (hahaha). Have a fine week and thanks again.👍🏽🙂

Thanks for the big effort making the sharpening video. I do mine about the same but use 30 degree top angle and slightly deeper depth gauge

I use a gri der for chains that are really bad or have hit fencing or nails ....i use cbn wheels as they dont throw as much heat into chains. . Hand fileing to tuch up chains that are still in good shape works for me....thanks for the video

Hi Roger!!😀😀
You need to do it however it works best for you. But as long as I have a good sharp file and my chain isn't any duller than that one was. After hand filling for over 40 years I can get better results in a lot less time than it takes to take it off then set the grinder sharpen and check rakers then put it back on. I also don't have to take it to the grinder. Also I sharpen my chain that is fresh out of the box before I cut with it because after travelling wrapped on a roll with all the cutters bumping against each other it's never perfectly sharp.
Have a good one buddy!!😀😀
