Just one thing to clarify for people that may be new to personal finance - a retirement account like a Roth IRA IS an investment account. You not only have to contribute to it, but you need to choose investments after you do otherwise you won’t see any returns. It’s a common mistake people make so just wanted to add that here!

Okay why is this so perfect, I love how willing you and your spouse are to budget together. And being able to communicate your goals, and understanding each other’s small splurges that you may not agree with, but understand since it’ll make your spouse happy. It’s so good to see how you balance each other out. I am in a long term relationship, but don’t want to get married until my late 20’s, and really want to use some of these tips even for myself.

We started doing a separate bills and spending account our first year of marriage and it was SOOOO NICE! we pay all of our bills out of the one account and then all of our spending out of the other. Another thing that helped us was to have spending accounts for more fun stuff that we want individually that is totally separate from other accounts.
