Here's a simplified explanation of how to record a song on your computer. I go over the very basics of what type of microphone to use, which recording software to use (free), and which instruments to record first. Keepin' it simple, my friends.

I never knew Audacity had a metronome feature, bless your soul.

one suggestion: Generally we record a scratch with the whole band together, then we go again with each individual instrument. At the end just delete the scratch and we r done :)

I've been playing since 1968, toured for years as a sideman, played on studio projects, taught. blah blah blah. I am 67, which makes me an old school analog guy.in a digital world which is why I am here.
I am grateful that you put everything I need to know on a video that is geared towards an absolute "beginner". I've watched enough videos to know what's good and what's not ....yours is excellent. Thanks1

Nice video for absolute beginners. I would just like to add, in place of the metronome track, the band can first try to do a "rough" recording of everyone jamming/playing the song as they would normally would. Doesnt have to be high quality, just good enough that everyone is content with the tempo, timings, etc. Then the drummer, or who ever records first can use that as a guide. That way, it would still be pretty organic, not too robotic like playing with a fixed tempo, and the drummer would have better idea on where he actually is in the song. That's because i have jammed and recorded some artist who sometimes use certain words in the lyrics as queues on what they are going to do next.

I’m using GarageBand for this on my MacBook Air with the overdubbing on my Zingyou-007 mic and my guitar. Great video!!

Although I don't record songs, this video was very simple yet comprehensive, which I found entertaining to watch.

By far one of the better instruction videos. Didn't waste much time with unnecessary chat and a synopsis of one's life story. Thanks. I'll watch other videos when necessary.

This is the best video for people, who doesn't have know, or have a chance to express their songs into the worlds of humans.

Your brake down of the home recording process was Simple Perfect! Unambiguous at its finest!! I have lost count of the many videos I've watched in trying to retrieve solid inception fundamentals. Your video allowed me to free my mind from all of the convoluted and over explained information I've gathered from videos in the past. You partitioned the process perfect for me and I truly thank you for that my friend. Cheers 🍻 !!!

I got stuck and have been putting off my overdubbing recording because I couldn't figure out how to sync the tempo of all the different tracks together. Learning that you can add a metronome track solves that problem. Thank you so much!
