I started by using folded daybed cover behind the mic and thick carpets hanging on the walls. The results are playing on radio channels regularly. It's not what you own but how to use what you own.

Pro here. Something absorbent in front, like a duvet or mattress, and the same behind the singer, and you're golden. A box isn't ideal. Made hundreds of records like that.

People either hate or people record. I got one for $35-40 and it works good. Even dynamics can catch some room reverb. With one of these setups, you can get a good dry vocal.

The upended mattress x duvet is perfectly good. Recorded vocals that got sampled by Bryson Tiller this way. Whatever gets the job done but just remember which way the mic is facing! 👍
