Real pulleys actually rotate! Wow! but usually in physics classes we can ignore this little detail. but to handle reality, we need to be able to figure out where the net torque comes from, so here is an example of how to do this. Hope it helps!

Hello, can someone please explain to me why the tension is the one that is used in the torque equation instead of m1g. Because how I thought of it was this: m1 pulls the system to the left so the force of gravity of m1 will create the torque in the pulley. So I used T (Torque) = m1gR = I alpha instead. Help plz, BTW great video, really helpful

shouldn't the accelerations of the net force of each mass be the opposite because they accelerate in opposite directions
