It's funny, but after all these years, I'm ready to say this because I've found it's a real thing to me. When University Challenge is off air, it feels like a part of me is missing. Not a big part, but when it starts up again, it just feels like I'm a little bit more than what I previously was. This show means a hell of a lot to me, and I'm really looking forward to all that is to follow.

Loved the team effort from Queen's Belfast! Thompson was the MVP for them. Really hope they can go through the 2nd round too. Liverpool had too many negatives which might cost them a repechage round.

This episode is particularly enjoyable because of the very limited amount of time each team took to confer. When Queens didn’t know an answer they passed immediately. Liverpool did confer but only briefly.

A Monte Christo is my favorite sandwich. They are hard to find and even then often not made correctly. The classic version is served with strawberry jam. It’s eaten with a knife and fork.

That must be one of the higher combined scores in an early round, although maybe I'm still mentally in the last few Paxman years where the questions slowed down a bit. Great episode to start it off with and i think both teams can be proud of their performance.

We're back with a bang ;). 27/33 on the bonuses is mightily impressive from Queen's to kick things off - we'll have to see if it can be replicated later but for now one to watch. Four penalties from Liverpool rather cancelled out a decent 13/24 on the bonuses, and I don't think 125 is going to be enough to come back.
