Mr. Whitaker actually captained the Cambridge A team to victory at the 2024 UK Student Quiz championships (coincidentally beating Justin Lee, Adam Jones and Michael Mays from Imperial College London in the final), and after that fantabulous display of 11! starters-for-ten, I can see why he did ;). Shame for Birkbeck - they all got at least one right but we won't be seeing them again. I do worry for the future for Darwin - it's not an exaggeration to say pretty much all the points (including the 19/32 bonus rate) came from Mr. Whitaker and I don't like one-man bands as a rule, but we'll have to see.

Haven't finished watching yet, but Birkbeck seem like a really lovely team. The way they interact with each other is respectful without being stiff; casual and friendly while also being calm and respectful.

I don't think I have ever seen someone answering all the starters for their team. If we follow S51, Whitaker can be a one-man team and lead them to the finals.

CP: Thank you so much for this! You rule (my Tuesday mornings)! Whitake had his hands full carrying his team. Also, the lack of science questions probably played into his (full) hands. Let's see what the next round brings for him. His teammates were pretty disappointing. Birkbeck produced much more of a team effort, but they looked a bit lethargic at times.
