1. Be punctual, time is money
2. Take initiative, become an asset
3. let your work determine your value not your mouth..

Work ethic like that use to be rewarded. Now it just means more work and you’re still just as replaceable as the next guy.

Also choose your clients carefully. Some clients are never satisfied and will take advantage of your willingness to go above and beyond.

This is valid if you're working for a small business or directly for customers.

This used to work, but times have changed. Hard work gets rewarded with more hard work

This was good advice 20 years ago. When people and companies appreciated good work. Now it is “do what you get paid to do” because there is no hesitation to replace people anymore no matter how valuable you are. You work your job and more then they pile more on top. You fall behind because of the excessive workload they fire you and replace you.

Old school lessons don't work in a new style world. People are not honorable anymore. Then they would see your worth. Now they just take advantage of your hard work. This is the true life lesson.

Unfortunately, if you don’t ask you don’t get. That’s one of the biggest lessons I had to learn in business and work. Be good at what you do so that you bring value to the table, learn to sell yourself and don’t be shy to ask for more. Worse you can hear is no but you will earn respect by doing so.

I wish these old school lessons still applied 😢
Its a completely different world now, unfortunately.

Hard work is rewarded with more hard work. So people stopped working hard

This only works in a place where people reward talent/hard work rather than take advantage of it.

That’s why pool cleaners also cleans the boss’s wife’s tank.

Mob principles are hard to transfer to real-world professional principles

At my current company I did a year of very hard work.

For my next year recurring contract, they decided to offer me an 18.3% reduction in pay. They said this is because their business is not doing well.

Fuck em. I refused on principle. I'm not on the sales team so why should I take the cut. How dare you reward my hard work with a penalty. I would rather take even less money with their competing companies.

Bosses don’t care and will pay you the least amount if they can . That’s how they think they become rich

Those are old school lessons to learn. Unfortunately people are not rewarded for working like that now. Loyalty and hard work means nothing. At least in my limited experience.

My dad gave me words to live by. He said any man that gives his time away for free is a rube. (Showing up 15 minutes early for no pay) He also said that a boss that tells you not to ask about money is a crooked boss. In this guy's case, my dad's words couldn't be more true.

1. Never work for free.
2. On time is on time.
3. Higher expectations require higher compensation.

I used to think being on was being late, but as I've gotten older I've realized that was just my boss taking advantage of somebody who wasn't willing to lose a job
