The New Tax Calculator: President Obama's Plan vs. Mitt Romney's

We asked people to use our new tax calculator to compare President Obama's tax plan to Mitt Romney's. This is what they found out.

This ad hits where it hurts - the pocket.

Let's not forget purchasing power. As a small business owner I have to hire someone full time to deal with federal regulations (notably the payroll tax) and the risk presented by the same. This in turn must be factored into the price of the goods and services I provide. The higher the burden and the tax, the higher the prices must go. A like effect tends towards wages. So, while a tax code may look favorable on the surface, it might bite you in the end.

This ad is great. So far the President's ads have been perfectly constructed to get the average American to pay attention to the fact that Romney has no clue what it is like to be an average American.

Wait.. does the calculator include the "health care tax"?, the sales tax on selling my house now that the health care bill has kicked in.. does it count the highest gas/fuel tax in history under Obama? ... How about does it cover that our great grand children will be still paying off what Obama has spent -- long term taxes vs short term paints a bleaker picture if ya'all were to get honest about it

The numbers are somewhat correct, but at the same time, misleading.

The numbers are not a comparative, but a contrast. For example:

If I made 47, 000, the chart says that under Obama, I save $1625 under Obama, and an increase of $431 under Romney.

If the chart was made the same in comparison - and not a contrast - it would look like this. I save $1625 under Obama, and save $1194 under Romney.

So the chart is pretty much correct. It just makes Romney look....bad,
