One eyed Crows supporter here, if you pause at 18 seconds you see Rankine’s head move forward as his chest is bumped. If it was a shoulder to the head, his head would have flown back. Unfortunate to see Rankine injured but it was within 5m of the footy so fair bump.

"It's a really poor look for the game"
2025 AFL season promotional videos will have this incident in fast time to show how good our game is

This is the AFL in a nutshell

Pure hypocrisy

David King would have gotten 15 weeks if he did what he did to Craig O'brien in the 96 GF, today.

The outcome should always be irrelevant. You can't predict how each individual will respond to a hit. That's just ridiculous. Would it still be the same suspension if he didn't get concussed from the act? If not, then 0 weeks. The umpires didn't even call a free for it.

It wasn't as bad as the webster one in the preseason.

I don't think it was high personally

The ball being sandwiched between Houstan and Rankine on impact may have done more damage that may not have been talked about at this time.
No head, feet planted, ball in plat, no free kick awarded, unfortunate concussion.
Fogarty on Jones could have done far more damage, but of course, Adelaide's media is not interested in this collision.

8 weeks? No David King, you're hypocrisy is astounding.

Call someone a bad word… 6 weeks.

Knock someone out… less than 6 weeks.

Not one of these panellists can admit that it wasn’t high, so the problem we have here is group-think. Somebody pluck up the courage and tell the rest of the panel what you really think.

What I'd like to know is this: if someone takes the Mark of the Year and knocks his opponent out by kneeing him in the back of the head, does he win the award or is he suspended due to the concussion?

Whats really fascinating here is umpire called play on, when Keane hip n shouldered soft as butters he got a free kick 😂

Byron Pickett would get a season now for one of his bumps.

One thing about the AFL....trial by media rules!

How are we gonna let Brayden Maynard end someone's career with a similar bump but get no weeks, yet we have already seen twice this year, players get multiple weeks when the player they hit comes back to the afl.

Darcy Fogarty takes Jones’ legs out from underneath him while he’s in the air but that isn’t talked about. I’d much rather get a fair hip and shoulder bump than getting my legs taken out from under me and potentially land on my neck or back in the wrong way. AFL and the uneducated fans who have never touched a footy in their life advocating for outcome based results.

So why wasn't Maynard rubbed out for 6 months. He made contact with the Head. This one didn't and is based on outcome.Maynard ends a guys career and NO suspension.

For everyone agreeing that it should be 8 weeks let me ask you a question. Do you think it should still be 8 weeks even if Rankine wasn't concussed and knocked out from hitting the floor?
