Łódź: Poland's Great Comeback City

Łódź is the third largest city in Poland and, if you're a native English speaker, you most likely have no idea how to pronounce its name (it's 'woodge')! In the 1800s there were more than 400 factories in Łódź that made the city very rich quite quickly. Unfortunately, after WWII, the riches evaporated and the city went into decline. Nowadays, the city is embracing its industrial past and making a huge comeback. It's a popular place for students and artists, which gives Łódź a youthful and creative energy. The abandoned factories are being reinvented and repurposed into incredible multifunctional spaces. The first and best example of this is Manufaktura. Łódź is definitely worth a visit.

Be honest: when you see 'Łódź', how does your brain want to pronounce it? 🤔

The city's history is somewhat unusual in Europe, and it's more similar to the boom and bust of American cities, such as Detroit. Łódź attracted a lot of immigrants and experienced an exponential growth in the 19th century. Then came WWII, communism, and a flood of cheap Asian textiles.... I am glad Łódź is experiencing its Renaissance now.

I'm so glad that the grim, grey and sad city of my childhood transformed into a vibrant modern beautiful place. Thank you for visiting Łódź.

I've already said it, but it's so refreshing to finally see a foreigner who checked how all the names are pronounced!
For years the most famous thing about Łódź was its famous Film School that Martin Scorsese is a great fan of :)

It is great to see that some of the textile history of Łódź was preserved for next generations. Thank you for this fun video.

I live in Łódź (born and raised) and I'm so happy you spend such a nice time in my city. Thanks for promoting it on your channel! I'm proud it evolved so much for the past 20 years and now we can stand proud when tourist visit us from all around the world. Łodź has a bad word of mouth in Poland, but we don't deserve it - yes, parts of the city are run down, but we did not rebuild anything after the war like Warsaw and now is our time to do it :) It felt really funny seeing you eat the same duplings with plum and beef cheeks I once ate and visiting the same museums I was taking my friends from outside of town to ;) Hope you visit again, there is a lot more here and in Poland in general to discover! Kisses

It's good to see my home town of Lodz painted in such a pleasant light. It typically isn't considered a tourist town but rather a student one. I love the general vibe of all your videos - you seem like two delightful people. Take care and enjoy your travels.

It wants to say "Lots" and clearly lots to do there. Sewer Museum most fascinating. The city has very creative urban planners to bring old spaces back to life.
Enjoyed this one!
