I'd love to know how this would play out differently if it were with the modern conflicts. Personally, I like Armenia because they seem like the Underdog, but Azerbaijan does have a stronger military.

Azerbaijan lost all three wars (1918, 1992-1994, 2016). There is little chance that Azerbaijan will win. And do not forget that Armenia has ballet missiles capable of destroying the Azerbaijani economy (striking oil platforms) and destroying the second largest city in Azerbaijan, hitting the Mingachevir reservoir.
