When You Should Pay to Promote your Videos

It's tempting to think that you should start paying YouTube to promote your videos, especially when you're first starting out and you want a bit of exposure. However, paying to promote something that's already not working will not magically make it start working somehow. Instead, you need to pay to promote the right content at the right time. In this video I share a bit about when you should and shouldn't pay to promote your videos and what you can expect if you do decide to do paid promotion through Adwords or otherwise.

I have 73K subscribers, my problem is I get new subscribers every day BUT they don't really watch my videos. What should I do?

You're a YouTube lifeguard. You save drowning channels.

Leaving genuine comments and having conversations on popular channels that relate to mine, has really helped us get our channel started!

We are new and I totally agree with you. We are still trying to figure out the basics of using the cameras, we still need external microhphones, lighting when indoor. Still learning to edit and of course figuring out the "story". Advertising right now would be a waste of money. I am sure we would need a good year just to get comfortable with everything. Just in a couple of months we have learned so much and the older videos are like "YIKES". We will keep them so we can see how we have grown over time. We LOVE your videos :) Thank you for all the great help. Melody

you are absolutely right, this was my mistake when I first started .. I pay a lot to promote a very bad content ... but then I focus only to develop a high quality content and things getting better and better ...

My first ever video was total crap and got 500K views in the blink of an eye. Totally out of the blue. Now I do have better content and more subs, but almost every video I upload stays below 500 clicks. It´s disappointing when you put so much work and love into the clips :(

I agree, paying for advertising for a beginning channel generally isn't worth the money. You can easily pay upwards of 100 per month and not see any growth.

Thank you for this video, truly. I have over 70 videos, about 2 years on YouTube but I'm still struggling with views . I have been using promotion and paying weekly

When is it time to start paying money to promote your YouTube videos? Approximately around the time when this happens:

That's the one thing I like about being a small channel. I can try new things as I get better at making videos. Thanks for the tips!

How about a Tim watching old Tim videos video? :)

In my eyes paying for viewers only makes sense if you already have a certain amount of videos to offer in the same niche and if they are properly linked via annotations and playlists plus proper calls to subscribe. That way a visitor will discover more content he likes on your channel and is much more likely to subscribe.

This video was so helpful and I'm currently in the very beginning stages of my YouTube channel so I appreciate your positive outlook on the fact that small YouTubers have to the freedom to experiment more. This is exactly what I'm doing with my channel right now which is why my videos are currently a hodgepodge of topics, haha. Also, thanks for much for the resources! Definitely going to check out FameBit and your Ebook!

Has anybody else noticed how many now successful YouTubers commented on this video back before they were big? This is the reason I’m commenting 😈 Also super helpful lol I didn’t know if I should promote or not

Makes so much sense I was about to take a plunge in to the promo world. I'll continue to collab with people instead and make a strategy based off my goals that will match my analytics and what some subscribers have requested.

I promoted a video to try it out and I found that if you're going to promote a video, use a video where the first 3 seconds pretty much sum up your brand. That way they hear you out before they skip the video.

my first videos were not awesome LOL! Hey, I have a question, I heard that once you start getting 1.5 million views a month you cans sell your own ads on your channel. How does that work and it is beneficial over you-tube selling the ads?

I did paid promotion on my Pizza Cake video.  It gained a few thousand views, I paid around $300 bucks and then ended the promotion and the video ended up getting an additional 100K views on its own.
