Typhoons are caused by a country's proximity to a large body of water (the Pacific Ocean) and a warm climate especially in the tropics. These conditions cause high evaporation from the seas around the islands, which brings rains and typhoons especially with the monsoon winds.

There was a reason why America wanted Philippines during the late 18th Century, a perfect position for Trade Routes to Asia plus Military Supply Lines connecting Hawaii to Philippines to extend it around the South East Asia in case of a war. The Natural resources also, during their 30 year occupation, they litteraly take 20-30% of Log Trees and other resources.
