WATER. The West Bank is the recharge area for the main aquifer in the region. If you want to develop the land you need water and controlling the recharge area is critical. Same with the Golan Heights — surface water runoff. The incusion into southern Lebanon was about the Litani River, another water resource. It was just too difficult to keep. I’m not sure that Arabs countries would like to declare an independent Palestinian state. If I remember well before 1967, the west bank was under the control of Jordan and Gaza under control of Egypt. Instead, to set up this country, Jordan and Egypt decided to annexation this territory... 😆

The funny part of this situation is Jordan criticizing Israel for wanting to annex the West Bank, considering Jordan were the first ones to annex it, and still refuse to give citizenship and equal rights to almost 2 million Palestinians that live in their country.
