Belly mapping

Belly mapping is becoming a lost art. Here’s a short and time lapsed video showing me belly mapping with one of my Doula clients.

As a doula and student midwife, I try to continue to practice my skills by belly mapping on my clients - as position can play a big role on:

How labor will start, how it will progress, presence of back labor, pain in pregnancy, length of labor, comfort of baby in the womb.

There are many things we can do to encourage babies to move into a more favorable position if need be. For example, 1 week before this video, baby boy was completely vertex (laying sideways and stretching his poor mama out)
! I gave my client “homework” and he returned to me head down.

Please ask your providers to show you how to map out your baby, this will help build a better bond and relationship with you and your baby - knowing exactly how they are lying in your womb!
