Mr. Pigden was a pilot in WW2 and even got the honour to do a flyover the Buckingham Palace. Yet he said that it wasn't his biggest achievement, he was more proud when Ian became a great, successful player. Such a heart of gold, makes me tear up when I think of it 😢

When he takes his hat off, shows the respect, class and manners school is supposed to teach you

They need to make a movie about this. It's really inspiring what he did for him.

That bit when Wright says he thought Mr. Pigden was dead is so heartbreaking!

I must have seen this 50 times. I cry every time I watch it.

Ian said " someone said you was dead."
Ian grieved this man. He mourned him. He probably wished he could see him again. Then he hears " Hello Ian." I can only imagine the disbelief he must have felt in that moment.

Invest in teachers, they will save the future.

My parents are both teachers.
I landed my dream job because one of my Dads students admired him enough to help me. A gesture I will never forget.

“See? He’d be proud of me about how I’ve read that” . He still cares about how he’d feel. He still values his opinion and validation. That how influential the man was to Ian’s life. We need more of this type of love and respect in our cold, cold world. ❤️

Just seen a clip on this on ticktock I came straight to find this documentary....so true schools are so important for these children that don't feel fulfilled at home.

It was a surrogate father/son relationship that led to former Hurricane and Spitfire pilot Sydney declaring Ian’s debut for England was the “proudest moment” of his life –beating his part in 1945’s Victory flypast over Buckingham Palace.

RIP Mr Pigden u where a world class man

Imagine having someone who has so much respect for you, they take their hat off before they even speak to you. Great example of love and respect.

The older generations won’t be here as long as we will, please, make every moment count for them the same way they sacrificed their lives to give us a chance

I'm an aspiring urban schoolteacher and this has been a brilliant boost to a tough day as a substitute. So much love for Wrighty and I can only hope to be considered a "great man" to my students after I'm gone.

On top of helping children. He was a pilot of a spitfire in WW2. Man was a badass along with a saint.
