We gotta appreciate players like Rio who tell great stories about other great players and leave their own egos at the door. We see a lot of admiration amongst former players but not normally when they directly competed.

Wrighty is an uncle now to a whole generation of arsenal fans.

Wrighty always brought the heat. One of the most exciting players to watch.

I think Ian Wright's appeal was that he was the happy go lucky guy that suddenly got the big break in life at the most unexpected moment and appreciated everything he had, and enjoyed every moment of it.

Rio’s views on the game are quite special. He expresses himself clearly and with a passion that makes him compelling to listen to.

I’m from West London right near carnival so there was a very big West Indian community and still is. I was already an Arsenal fan before Wrighty joined and I was of course extatic when he joined. But I will tell you one thing. This legend wasn’t only an amazing person and footballer. He is also single handedly responsible for Arsenal having an even bigger fan base, especially within the Caribbean community. The man deserves a statue please!! 🙏🏽 ❤

If there’s a player for an opposition club that you liked it was someone like Ian Wright.

Not only the goals and the way he scored them, but the way he played and obvious joy he expressed in what he was doing.

I always tear up at the documentary and the story of him and his games teacher, Mr Pigden.

That’s what football, and life is all about - moments and more importantly stories like that one.

I’m Liverpool fan and Ian wright was an absolute blessing to the game of football and continues to be with his punditry and honesty he says it how it is., I don’t think he was understated he was the unluckiest player I’ve seen when it comes to England caps and it was mostly through to him being used and not qualifying or not getting off the bench there was a solid reason he didn’t go to any world Cup’s or Euro’s, I’ve always loved wrighty and I’d of absolutely loved it if we’d of gotten him, he’s like a bit like Salah in the sense of you’d struggle to find a fan of any club to hate him or that’s what I think anyway, did you see the video of his old teacher turning up ? and wrighty’s emotions as he’d been told his teacher (Mr Picton I think ) had passed away and it had tears rolling down my cheeks as it was a Beautiful moment in humanity being the way it should be, I’m even becoming fond of all the ex Man U players as pundits as you get to see the real person that they are.

Theres something about players who get into the top games relatively late.
They love it and live it and fans recognise that and love them for it.

So painful he started late in pro football ❤

He’s still a legend of the game regardless ❤❤❤❤❤

Ian Wright is the absolute number one irrefutable example of why children need a father figure in order to develop properly....
Ian's early life was tough and heading in the wrong direction, his father left when he was no more than a baby and his step father was a violent and uncaring man.... but he was lucky enough to be mentored by a teacher who cared about him and gave him guidance.
Ian became one of the great football players but never forget how easily life could have been very different if it hadn't been for the male
