In this video I share some tips to improve your service game. The footage is taken from a real coaching session with a player called Ian.

Ian plays local league and veterans tournaments. He has good technique and strong serves, capable of winning cheap points.

But Ian sometimes struggles when his serves are returned. He can be slow to recovery and a little guilty of ball watching. This results in Ian making errors with this 3rd ball attack.

In the session I give Ian some tips on how to develop a more complete service game.

Clear concise instructions.
Getting ready after the serve, being beincy and choosing the form of attack is so very important.

Really love this kind of vids, real coaching and real technical troubleshooting. Each and every player are unique, and we can learn more and more by watching different coaching with different player, even with same topic! Good camera angle and audio too, since some "real coaching" videos may have poor recording and hence not so audible for viewers.

Thank you for a great reminder. Basics which we need to be reminded of from time to time!

Great video. Especially about the getting into position, something I struggle with too.

As a long term novice 😢, I really struggle with players who constantly smash the ball taking advantage of my wide swing or slow recovery. Or 2 quick balls to my forehand where I don't have the time to rotate my body into position fast enough. Would love to see a video on it ❤.

Love all your videos!

Thanks I really needed this as I lose lots of points from not being able to return the ball after someone counters it with a flick.

Great video, as someone who struggles with recovery after serving, I can really relate to it.

I will add one tip that is very important for me.
When we do a drill with serves, and the drill means I know where the return will come, it's very very important that I still go in neutral position after the serve and don't anticipate by going straight to the 3rd ball playing position.
It helps developing good habits of going to neutral position between shots. Even more interesting, I also make much less mistakes on the 3rd ball that way, even in the drills. By going via the neutral position, it helps with rythm of the shot I think.
