Ecological Restoration on Degraded lands
Показать описание
What is Ecological restoration
Ecological restoration is the process of short-circuiting the process of natural recovery of degraded ecosystems through ecological interventions. Restoration is the process of assisting with the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed by re-establishing its structural characteristics, species composition, and ecological processes. Biodiversity of flora and fauna is the essence of ecological restoration. Therefore ecological restoration of mined areas is the most appropriate ecologically and socio-economically compatible measure.
Why ecological restoration?
Man needs ecological goods and ecological services, which are the benefits arising from the ecological functions of healthy ecosystems. The resources we use, the species we see, and the foods we eat are ecological goods of the ecosystem processes (ecosystem processes means the biological, chemical, and physical interactions between components of an ecosystem). These processes produce ecological benefits to man in the form of Clean water, Regulating climate, Pollinating crops, Generating and maintaining soils, Absorbing and detoxifying pollutants, Providing beauty and recreation, Storing and cycling essential nutrients, reduction in erosion, Carbon sequestration, and Maintaining hydrological cycles, etc.
