Mechanic Tip : Floor Jack Workshop Safety

A simple couple strips of high visibility painters tape or electrical tape works wonders for preventing accidents in the garage. I use this concept on floor jack handles and sharp corners of tool boxes.

First thing you need to when you get a new jack is wrap the handle in hi-vis, so you know exactly what smacked you in the nards when you're fumbling around in the dark for the light switch.

My tip is to take the side handle off that aluminum jack. Its utlity as a handle is dubious and it gets in the way when manipulating jack stands and the jack on a axle.

I put some glowing tape on mine so I can see it when the 30 minute job I started at 3pm is still going at 1am. I also spray painted an orange strip around my impact sockets so if one rolls into the grass, hopefully I can find it before the lawn mower does.

Lume tape is great for a bunch of stuff.

Orange pool noodles do the trick for me. Also provides extra cushion against denting cars.

when the contrast matches other things in the shop like your toolbox, or when everything has high contrast attached to it, nothing has high contrast anymore.

That last one is what I'd call critical 😊

I've always put a pool noodle over the end so I don't have to worry about damage to what I'm working on

First thing I usually do is put rubber on the handle, something like the one from Gaither, but I've also gotten some no-name ones from Amazon.

Saw some guy claim he takes his off and stores it elsewhere, that's just a waste of time.

It looks like you label your toolbox drawers. So, for you, wrapping your jack handles is something you would naturally do. I don't need to, but thank you.

I like wrapping them with the occasional piece of pool noodle and hockey tape. Really saves the day if you bump the car not paying attention.

I was waiting for a good piece of advise. I guess I’ll just stay waiting.
