I am often asked the difference in cost between medical school and dental school. In this video, I discuss the year to year difference in cost between BU dental school and BU medical school. Of course, the cost of education will vary greatly depending on a number of things. There are many more aspects that go into the true cost of education, including opportunity costs, which are not discussed in this video. This video is meant to just show one example of the difference in cost between the two educations at one specific university.

As mentioned in the video, going medical school and dental school are not decisions that should be made solely on finances, however it is important to understand the financial implications of taking either of these routes before you start! Everyone has different circumstances, methods of paying tuition, etc and as such, your individual situation will vary.

The charts used in this video will be posted on my Instagram page @fifteenblades. Be sure to follow that page for daily posts if you are not already!

In France it’s a 100% free for dental school and med’school
However if the selection criteria is not the price, it is all about our capacity of learning, our logic, and our human qualities

But approximately 90% after the exams don’t pass because of the difficulty of the famous 1st year 😅

The cost of attendance at my dental school, not including the cost of living, is about 200K which is considered super low/affordable/reasonable nowadays compared to many other schools. Of those 200K, approximately 30K is for instruments that we have to buy.

Great video! One thing that is important to mention is the opportunity cost difference. Although your video shows how dental school may be more $$$, I think it also important to understand that a dentist can go out right after school at 26 and make a nice 6 figure salary. However, any medical school grad is spending another 3-7 years making a resident salary. So although dental school might be more $$, you also have 4 more years of a high income at a young age to ‘make up’ that difference if you so choose to do general dentistry. Just a thought! Thanks!

That's incredibly ambitious that you did medical school and dental school! Is the extra cost for dental school related to the rotations in which you guys get hands-on training with real dental work in your 3rd and 4th year?

People don’t understand that loans build interest. Please understand the ROI, compounding interest and opportunity costs of these degree before pursuing as well!

Lots of careers out there that pay really well that don’t require a lot of time and money. Ensure you want it for the right reasons!

How to lower tuition costs.

1. Make student loans a loan that you can file bankruptcy on.
2. If Student loans became loans where you're allowed to file bankruptcy on, the banks would make it more difficult for students to apply for a student loans, just like a house loan, or a business loan.
3. If applying for student loans becomes more difficult like other loans, less people would go to college.
4. If less people go to college, the colleges would realize that they need to lower their tuition so the colleges can keep making money.

Now this strategy only works if the government changes the rules for the student loans, so until then, this is how to pay for student loans.

1. Apply for a Business loan (because you can file for bankruptcy)
2. Use that business loan to pay for your "Expenses"(its really the tuition, etc)
3. File for bankruptcy
4. Graduate with no debt.
