DEVSISTERS released an update that contains harmful depictions and stereotypes of Muslim and SWANA people. This is unacceptable as these depiction can actually cause harm to the people within that culture. Something must be said, this issue should not be swept aside.

I just find it funny how all 3 yogurca updates so far have been awful, faced with extreme amounts of backlash yet for some reason they keep pushing them out instead of choosing like one of the many other plotlines they have-

There is a different between inspiration and representation. Representation is representing something (so it has to be accurate as it possiblity can be), while inspiration is taking something and putting a creative twist to it (so it doesn't have to be 100% accurate).

Even so, if you're taking inspiration from something, you have to be respectful to the source material (this case being yogurca and the SWANA region)
And using stereotypes as the creative twist is NOT respectful to SWANA

And it's downright offensive using harmful stereotypes like bombs for Muslims

I may be Catholic but Devsis putting a stereotype that is against the Muslim religion of Islam is everything wrong I respect my Muslim brothers and sisters ✝️❤️☪️. And I can't believe Devsis would release and update like that during Ramadan!!! I just really wish they would cancel Peppercorn Cookie and delete the current update rn in OvenBreak it's just so wrong to release that update.

Although I'm a Christian (more like a Catholic) and do respect other religions, what Devsisters did is NOT okay at all. I'm the kind of person who will not tolerate any kind of disrespect towards any religions. The fact that this update is released during Ramadan (time where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk) from Islam makes it worse. I DON'T CARE if this was for April Fools or not OR intentional or not, it is not okay to release something that disrespects anyone, especially a religion. We can't let them release something like that and think they can get away with it. I'm hoping that Devsisters learn their lesson the hard way for doing such a thing.

Man, i honestly can imagine how offensive and hurtful was this update for the swana and muslim people.

Not only how misrepresented they were, or how they literally added a jelly BOMB set (implying terrorism, like what), but how they did this shit durig Ramadan. I hope they change they mind soon, meanwhile, let's stop supporting them, maybe that's the only way they will notice they made something bad.

As a Southeast Asian (Indonesian specifically, because I heard Yogurca is also mixed with Southeast Asia) Muslim myself this update itself has made me COMPLETELY pissed off, I had to stop playing their games and switched with Dislyte to comfort myself (while Dislyte has East Asian Company, Chinese Company to be specific working on it, they did the representation WAY better than how Devsis and Hyv did)
Overall, a very NOT recommended update to play at all, they have crossed the lines completely this time ESPECIALLY the fact they released the update during Ramadan, shame on them.

Edit 11/4/2023: I am taking my words back, Dislyte recently just released an update about Tabaton, which unfortunately is a place based on the shady market stereotype towards Egypt/Arab. God I can't even take any single breaks from this.
Edit 13/4/2023: I've progressed through the new Dislyte Event Story, so far nothing much racist has been going on other than the shady market theme there, still, a stereotypical one tbh :/
Edit 16/4/2023: I went deeper to the Tabaton Story, seems like there's nothing much is racist going on there So yeah, in conclusion, the story is not that racist, it's just the dark market reference that made it stereotypical in the first place

I've never seen that all of this is way too worse than I heard of. I still feel bad about leaving Ovenbreak, but at the same time I'm happy about it. Me, who has Muslim, Southwest Asian and North African friends (and followers on Twitter), I would never, and I mean NEVER gonna play that update. It's disgusting that Devsisters did one useless thing to "calm down" the whole drama and hasn't done a apology to the whole fandom and the people who got affected. I wouldn't be surprised if Devsisters gets in trouble with a whole region, it would make them learn a lesson in a really bad way.

they also released it during nowruz, (persian new year, but it's celebrated in more than just iran) so not only did they release it during ramadan, they released it during a very important time for iranians, baha'i, and zoroastrians... i've had my own family from iran talk about the violence they faced there before/during the revolution and their persecution for not being muslim, so why would anybody bring violence or terrorism somewhere if they're trying to escape it?

at first I thought this was overdramatizing n stuff but the bomb part and the ramadan part was a mindblowing detail to me cause even tho I am myself south asian AND a muslim I simply couldnt put the pieces together and thought it was as simple and harmless as aladin idk-

I’ll be honest, I fell out of the Ovenbreak fandom and have only been playing the game as a time waster and while I’d heard the fandom wasn’t at all happy about this new update, I assumed it was for the same reason as I was at first, with the removal of cookie and pet chests and reworking of the level up system. I never liked Yogurca much from the start because of how stereotypical it was but I never realised just how far Devsis had gone with harmful stereotypes.

As a SWANA Christian (Egyptian-Syrian) who respects Muslims and has close friends who are Muslim, this is absolutely unacceptable. It doesn't matter what the intentions of this update was, it is disgusting and unacceptable. The fact Koreans are barely aware of the Middle East gives them no excuse from this. Releasing this during Ramadan doesn't help at all. I'm considering quitting both games if this continues. I could talk for hours about how disgusting this update is, but for the sake of the reader, I will not, but thank you for bringing this up to spread more awareness of this.

You know, I actually miss old Ovenbreak (tho I wasn't there at the time). The release was actually B tier and very decent and no controversial update. So was kingdom, and now Ovenbreak has gotten to the point where I only want to play kingdom. Cookie run fandom is a mess, and we really need to clean it up, as a coumminty
