5 Freshwater Fish With The Longest Lifespans
Показать описание
What freshwater fish has the longest lifespan? In this video i will be trying to answer that question and more. In the animal kingdom there are many creatures that are famous for living for an extremely long time such as the elephant and the giant tortoise but there are some fish that are also famous for living for a very long time.

I have edited and adapted some of these clips.
The first old fish that i will be going through is the lake sturgeon. The lake sturgeon is the only sturgeon species that is endemic to the great lakes basin. The lake sturgeon is a prehistoric fish but is also a fish that has a very long lifespan.
Our second old fish is the alligator gar. The alligator gar is the largest gar species and is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. It's no surprise that this giant fish can live for a very long time.
Our third fish with a very long lifespan is the bigmouth buffalo. The bigmouth buffalo looks very much like a carp but is actually a member of the sucker family. As it can be quite hard to tell the age of a fish most of the ages in this video are estimates but the bigmouth buffalo is the oldest age validated fish.
Our next old fish is the Australian lungfish. The Australian lungfish is another prehistoric fish and is one of the most primitive species alive on this planet today. One Australian lungfish called Grandad was the oldest living fish in captivity.
For our final fish with a very long lifespan we will be heading into garden ponds worldwide as we have the koi. The koi carp is a colourful variant of the amur carp and is one of the most popular pond fish in the world. Koi come in many different shapes and colours and some fetch a eye watering price. One Japanese koi carp was thought to be the oldest living fish in the world.
If you know any more fish that live for a very long time then let me know in the comments below?
Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed :)
