Ironically, Dooku was told to lose to Anakin and be taken prisoner, Palpatine changed his plan, seeing Anakins darkside is ready to unleash and told him to kill Dooku to see if Anakin really was ready

Though later on in Anakins life, as Vader, he became the most skilled duellist in canon and it is said the Palpatine even feared Vaders skill, worried that Vader may overthrow him that way
