The fact that the FA wanted Southgate to stay on actually means the FA is the problem

He’s managed the culture and human side of it very well, but he’s a poor tactical manager and doesn’t judge players well. He’s benefitted from some extremely kind draws in tournaments and after 8 years in the job failed to bring the team into this tournament with any coherent plan.

As an England fan, I'm not a deluded fan that thinks we have a god given right to win tournaments. Personally I'd rather we just play to our best ability, getting the most out of the players and where we finish, we finish. Thats all you can ask for. However tactically under Southgate, i never felt we were performing to our best.

Yes, we might have been scraping results but in the most ugly fashion possible and then when we came up against the better teams we inevitability fell short anyway. If we're going to fall short to the likes of Spain, France, etc, I'd rather it happened when we have left everything on the pitch.😂

Lionel Scaloni went from managing the Argentina U-20s to the full national team and has done pretty well.

I can't imagine Jude Bellingham ever trying to flex attitude at Carlo Ancelotti like that. That's the difference.

Semifinals, finals, quarterfinals, and finals in four tournaments managed. I think history is going to end up being a lot kinder to Southgate than people realize right now. Getting this far in four straight tournaments may never happen again and should not be taken for granted. Far too many English fans really do not respect other nations and have an entitlement to success that is not at all justified.

Hardly anyone brings up what Southgate did in the 2021 penalty shootout.

He subbed on two young players just for penalities, and blew it.

That game, those decisions...that's his actual legacy.

Let’s get a group of BBC and ITV pundits to manage England, as they seem to know exactly what the manager and team are doing wrong.

The next England manager will face much more pressure because of the results Southgate has achieved. Therefore, he must be someone who is really passionate and have a strong desire to lead the national team.

History will be kind to Southgate. He won more tournament knockout games between 2018 and 2024 than every England manager combined between 1968 and 2016

One of the most successful England managers of all time

For english standards GS performance is superb imagine back in days of 2007-2016 where england were struggling to even qualify for euros, advancing for group stages of the WC and Euro, losing to mediocre and underdog teams.... england was a laughing stalk back then compared to what it its the likes of even fabio capello couldnt take england far...he is done great tbh nobody thought GS would even take england this far he has surely outperformed his critics and england were unlucky to have a better team than them in the competition !

Id hate to be manager of england football, the lowest the next manager can go is winning the world cup or the next euros, ive never seen fans and media so arrogant thinking we should win, its like we do the same over and over again and expecting something different thats called madness, and delusional, we arent the only football nation trying to win the euros or the worldcup, have to cut the next manager some slack cause despite how you feel about southgate and his processes how he was treated thru to after the euros was pretty sh itty, all i can say about the next manager good luck have a nice day cause you going to need it.

It's funny how journalists like James Olley keep reiterating that England did run deep in every tournament while also ignoring the fact that England for some reason also always was in THE EASY side of the draw. They never had to face propper teams until the point where they were beaten. They had to beat teams like Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Colombia, Panama, Tunisia and the likes. Those are opponents you should beat with that incredibly talented squad that you have available. I guess the exception in this recent Euros was the Netherlands, but even they were not really all that great. Had England faced France, Portugal, Germany or Spain earlier in that tournament, they'd been out way earlier. The style of football has been nothing short of abysmal and everytime they came up against a proper team coacher by a proper coach, they fell short and rightly so.

Ha as a mexican id take englands results over ours lately lol😂 but I understand they have better players and potential overall and here futbol is dying as well in many areas its not like it used to be so theres that . I do feel spain would've won that with or without southgate . Spain just looked too amazing and was creating amazing plays . No shame in losing to this spain.

while i might agree that sometimes i question his substitution patterns and tactics he was still a better manager for this side that any of the previous england coaches and he got treated horribly by pundits and fans i am England fan but live in America and him getting to the euros finals and world cup semis the same has bills going to the four super bowls even though they lost or the rockets and clippers teams on the NBA never being able to reach NBA finals and Flaming out in conference finals but they still got there which counts for something imo

Southgate totally messed up the Euros even though we crawled to the final via a lucky draw..the team was disjointed and played like individuals. Experimenting with Trent in midfield says everything you need to know about how badly he prepared for these Euros!

Firstly, Bellingham was a 20 year old in a competition shouting at his manager to change something. Why do you think that was? Is it a coincidence that he was shouting out the negative criticism that the media had been throwing at Southgate all over their papers, magazines, T.V and the internet as if to stupid, ignorant or immature to know that negativity would reach the England players and disrupt their minds as we clearly saw with the 20 year old that is Jude Bellingham shouting at the manager in a panic which I am sure the Spanish would have seen and grown in strength seeing. The biggest opponent England players, the manager and the team always must face is the English media, be it racism or just stubborn headed selfishness, killing the dreams of the nation and the dreams of the young men on the field representing us, some of them barely teenagers, and it is disgusting. They tell the media to stop and let them know it is damaging their operations, but they just don't care, they all just see the priority as being to make a name for themselves writing and speaking rubbish. Secondly, never heard so much nonsense. The media love Pochettino and will do all they can to get him the job because he always bends to their influence, but let's look at some facts. Pochettino's career as a manager is one in which he has always been outsmarted by top managers and that is why he has struggled to win trophies running into them in the later stages of competitions. At Chelsea he lost against an exhausted Man City who could not believe their luck that they faced such inept decision making by him and could not beat a Liverpool team of teenagers. The only time he was able to win was when he had players of the best money can buy when in France, but even then he was exposed because he could only get them to beat weak teams faced in the French league failing to achieve anything with them outside that league and so getting fired. It would be no different if he was England manager. He would make a lot of money which no doubt would make him want the job, but like throughout his career would be outsmarted by other quality managers and like always as a result win nothing. Peace and love
