Because Oneida sponsored me ... that's the answer to the question in the title. Your opinion would have more credibility if your video wasn't an infomercial for the competition.

I've got a G700, but I'm just a hobby woodworker, so I don't have constant fill up issues. I do have the issue with the filters getting clogged, and it's incredibly annoying and can take up whatever free time I have to woodwork. It's a gamble every time on if the filters will clog before I get the alert for the bins being full. I also don't have much space in my shop, which is why I got the G700 to start with. I need to look into, maybe, building a small shed type thing to put a standard dust collector in it so it doesn't take away from the space I have.

I have a mini Gorilla in my shop. I’ve been very happy with it. Had a couple issues, one including a failed power switch, but support has been great at no charge.

Just sold mine for a supercell. While louder, I’m much happier with the design. So many things drove me crazy about the Harvey. Storage (size and emptying bags), instant shut off for bins full as you mentioned yet still having space, on/off switch on the back, constant flickering display while not running and most of all, the port on the front.

I switched out a large Clearvue unit for the G700 a couple of years ago because it was more appropriate for my home shop application. Those big capacitor-start Lesson motors don't really like to be switched on and off repeatedly, but that's how I work. I found myself changing out burned up capacitors too often. That's not an issue with a G700's variable frequency drive and I can dial back the speed for long CNC operations when not as much suction is needed. Other than a few quality issues with the bin seals and gaskets, the G700 is a good fit for me as I don't do a lot of planing or other operations that would fill the bins too quickly. The main issue is that, unlike the Clearview and Oneida cyclones, the impeller is located before the dust separator. So if you suck up some small offcuts, they will strike the impeller. Fine for dust, but not a great design for floor sweeping etc.

Ironically, 12 years ago I replaced my cyclone with drum for the same reason you replaced the G700. Mine only had a 35 gallon drum but it filled way too quickly and emptying was a chore. I ended up with a 2 bin Felder RL160 that I found used and has much greater capacity. The weight of the full bags is a bit challenging though. Steve

I'm diligently researching a vacuum system for my new shop so please forgive my caution as revealed by my questions: 1. Are you sponsored by, or given a discount by Oneida or is this an 'unencumbered ' review? 2. Do you plan on putting together a future review of your Oneida systems? I found your critical review of the Harvey G700 very helpful. Thank you.

Would the Harvey work for a downdraft table? No other tools just a table for sanding to catch all the fines?

Great unit! I have an older version super dust deputy connected to a drum. If it gets full I'm ducted outside with no filter so the shavings just blast over my neighborhood.

What was the tool you used to remove the stand legs and lower the Gorilla Pro?

does the supercell have a runtime limit? and how do you like the sound compared to the impeller unit? I've been flipping between the two for ages and can't decide, haha! I think the supercell would fit much better in my small shop, but I'm worried it's not able to run constantly all day.

Can you comment on the noise level of the units versus the G700? Might not be an issue in a production shop, but for a hobbyist...

With the G700, I’m thinking about putting a large trash can style cyclone next to the planer/jointer and seeing if I can drop most of the larger chip there. Might work. Might not.

Nice technique to get the motor mounted. Usually you see something pretty sketchy at about that point in these videos.

Hmmm I have a new G700 sitting on my back porch. Hope I haven’t screwed myself. I went with it for several reasons: 1) noise - we have a little shouse up in the mezzanine of my shop that we’ll be living for a bit. And 2), I’m offgrid and the slow ramp up of the 3-phase will not slam my inverters and batteries as much as a conventional system.

Still worry that screwed the pooch though. Then again, it’s not a production shop.

I'm sure your new system will be great. All told, pretty expensive too because it's not an apples to apples switch. If a guy already had the Harvey (and didn't crap money) he should try a cyclone and can outside the dust processor.

Have you been sponsored in any ways form Oneida ?

Thanks for the video, it is appreciated.

What’s wild is that the woodworking community still doesn’t realize that the industry is light years behind other industries in moving air, which is all dust collection is.. I run specialized dual 12” hydroponics fans in a sound proof closet into a Cyclone, bin and Merv15 filter.
I run an industrial CNC router, Jet 208HH planer, sanders, tablesaw..
And I can’t even hear my dust collection. At a fraction of the cost of anything Oneida makes. Without the decibels.

Blowing air downward and around through a cyclone is an inferior design and results in all kinds of friction and suction loss.
Harvey at least sort of had the right idea with the design. Pulling air instead of wasting air flow with a top mounted blower directed downward is a superior method.

1:00 into the video...and of course its a sponsored video for a competitor...nice clickbait!

honestly a smaller bin seems good. it was such a PAIN IN THE BUM to get a 55 gallon bin through my garage.. I don't really see a negative for us prosumers. Oneida just seems no thrills compared to laguna etc.
