The way that this movie didn't have a villain and made healing the conflict resolution changed me forever

Fun fact: Moana setting and inspiration is from all the Polynesian cultures mixed together. Like for example, some of the songs are sang in Tokelauan language and the costumes has like a mixture of Samoan and Tongan traditional clothing..so its all blended together beautifully. And the character Maui has different interpretations and versions of him in every Polynesian culture.

Remember this applies to all Polynesian cultures not just in Hawaiian religion, I don’t want be that person but this movie was such a big deal to us other small island countries then it’s always just called “Hawaii” even thought māui is covered in Māori tattoos (from New Zealand) as a kiwi myself no hate all love though just letting you guys know xx

Fun fact about newborn turtles: a big thing that's always made clear is that if you're going to help them find the water, you absolutely cannot carry them there. They have to find it on their own.

The scene at the beginning is essentially how Moanas journey ends up going out on the ocean. She may have been pointed in the right direction, but ultimately she had to do it on her own.

Love that Moana is her own hero in this movie, she really does so much and shows strength.

the reason the songs in this are so great is because they were mostly written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, the same guy who wrote the hit musical Hamilton. I am also a big fan of Shiny and thought I was one of the only people who is; I find that most people gravitate toward the other song but there's something about Shiny that speaks to me haha thanks for the reaction guys and happy belated birthday Bryce! (my birthday was May 16th so pretty close to yours)❤

This movie was a masterpiece in every category, great songs, great voice acting, great story, and masterful animation.

The song playing when Moana first gets the heart from the ocean as a toddler is incredibly meaningful. It’s to honor a group of young Polynesian girls that died in their school when it burned down. It’s so sad and beautiful💜

I love that this movie was a blend of different Polynesian cultures. I grew up in an area with a lot of Filipino, Tongan, and Samoan influence so it was SO cool when this movie came out. I hope to make it to NZ one day.

Fun fact: this is actually true! Polynesians DID stop wayfinding for a period of time, and nobody knows why.

Fun fact, Polynesians discovered Aotearoa New Zealand. According to ancient Polynesian folklore, the North Island of NZ was named “The Great Fish of Maui”, the South Island was named “Maui’s Canoe” and Stewart Island was named “The Anchor Stone”. After the discovery of Greenstone (Jade) the South Island was given a second name “The Greenstone Waters”. It would be amazing to see a real movie “Maui’s Final Quest”. From birth, some of the amazing magical feats he accomplished, until his unfortunate demise. The Aotearoa NZ folklore stories handed down from generation to generation. Great reaction guys

Another fun fact: Moana is also loosely based around what is called The Long Pause where after rapid expansion Polynesian peoples just stopped travelling for almost 2, 000 years!

The grandmother's death was the Call to Adventure, in the Campbell "Monomyth" vernacular: the event that demanded Moana's crossing of the threshold into her coming-of-age adventure.

This film is beautiful, and the music amazing.

Glad you guys took the time to watch it.

The ocean chose Moana because of her HUMANITY.

Maui couldn’t do it, he's shoot first ask questions later.

The ocean couldn’t do it because water hurts Te Ka.

Fun (Important Inclusion) Fact: The movie is set in Polynesia (not Hawaii) and fittingly, all the main cast voice actors in this movie have either Native Hawaiian, Polynesian, or Maori heritage. 🏝 🎬

The black patch her and grandma were dancing on the beach was a patch of black lava called pahoehoe (sounds like pa-hoy-hoy). I'm crazy lucky to live Hawai'i Island and the islands are made out of 2 types of lava.. the smoother kind that flows out in layers of ropy sheets (like the piece they're dancing on), and the other is a'a (sounds like ah-ah). It's gnarly, sharp, jagged stuff. So some beaches have smoother pahoehoe on them, others the rougher a'a (that the ocean smooths out to some degree, over time).
Happy birthday Bryce! Love your guy's videos 🌴😎🤙
Aloha from the Big Island 🌋
EDIT: Yes, i know the movie is not set on or in Hawai'i, specifically. But it suuuure looks like it haha ✌️

Auliʻi Cravalho (the voice actor playing Moana) made the choice not to play Moana in the live action as she believes someone better fitting Moana, a teen Polynesian girl, should play the character. She posted a video explaining herself.
