California's Great Flood of 1862

This was the big one. It put entire cities underwater and formed an inland sea across the middle of California. And it'll probably happen again. We're due.

Well it seems to be happening right now! California is experiencing one atmospheric river after the other.

There are early maps showing California as an island .

Sweet, "mud flood" has gone main stream. Now tie in the orphan trains and you got a winner.

How about having the conversation about how GeoEngineering/Weather Manipulation is being employed...?

Glad to see a video about this lesser known natural disaster. I guess it rained for like 40 straight days in California. A storm like that would today would be catastrophic.

The Central Valley was a "lake." They used to have boats to travel up and down California. Today we are slowly becoming a dust bowl. Most of our water goes to LA and the rest is allowed to go straight into the ocean to protect a tiny Delta Smelt. Congress created dust bowl.

I find this a little interesting when at the same time on the other side of the United States, there is a civil war going on

I wonder how long we have until the next reset...

My thoughts are that this weather event is somehow related to the massive x class solar flare called the Charrington event of 1859.

Old maps show California as an island and the sea between it and the mainland was called the red sea. I wonder if a major flood event filled in that sea. Interesting history

Your missing 1 crucial variable that prove to be substantial from this years atmospheric river. Its called storm drains. Honestly without them. We would have been underwater a week ago. Here's some fun fact. They did not have storm drains in the 1862 flood. Storm drains weren't invented until the 1960s. They also weren't set into place until the 1980s. Storm drains are created to divert rain water into nearby bodies of water such as oceans. Now we just need a better capture method that will not only store these captured rain waters. But also filter them and dump back into our major reservoirs. But I don't see this happening for another 20-50 years because California is lazy AF.

In California, I can see why this flood would be such a bad thing if it happened today. Still, the details of this flood sound eerily familiar to the stories my grandfather told me about the St. Patrick's Day Flood of 1936.

The Carrington Event in 1959 was just a year earlier. I can only imagine the role that had on Earth's weather for years after.

I just saw something about Chicago in the mid 1800s had to raise up buildings because of so much mud everywhere in the city. The city was sunk in mud.

The Native Americans of the area recognized the weather pattern in 1862. Before they packed their village and left they tried warning the white people. Tried showing them how high the water would get. It was such a regular predictable pattern for people whod lived there for thousands of years they knew the signs to watch for that would tell them to leave. They headed for the foothills. The pattern is a mega drought lasting about 20 yrs followed by a mega flood that makes the central valley an inland sea/great lake about 300 miles long and 60 miles wide. It happens every 100-200 years and its been 160 years. People will blame climate change and I don't deny Earths climate changes and humans arnt helping but the mega drought occurring now followed by the mega flood thats sorta just looming in wait will be a natural historical, predictable event for California. They say Carson City, NV was also flooded to 9 feet, Utah, Arizona etc they all flood. LA will get about 66 inches or so of rain in those 6 weeks. If you know anyone in Californias central valley, Sacramento, LA any low lying areas in California just be sure they know this event occurs and is due soon. That they have moving boxes or large Tupperware bins ready and probably just to have all important photos, documents stashed in a bin ready to go because when it begins, if they are watching the weather pattern they can run and rent a small moving van, pack all the things they would like to keep, and get to high ground in plenty of time. If they don't know and sit around watching 2+ weeks of constant rain in the winter and haven't rented a moving truck, haven't loaded their stuff they will probably end up in a rushed evacuation leaving most things behind in gridlock traffic etc. As they say, don't be scared, be prepared!
