Cyber attack hits major London hospitals as procedures are cancelled

A number of procedures have been cancelled or redirected to other NHS providers after a cyber attack affected major hospitals in the capital.

Sadly it seems many/most NHS hospitals have woefully out of date systems. As a retired IT Security specialist I was in a hospital recently and was left alone in a room with an ancient, networked computer that I could have exploited in seconds with a bad USB dongle and likely gained access to the hospital network. A problem can be that devices or systems, which the hospital relies upon, are only available on older OS versions, which no longer receive security updates (Windows 7 for instance). Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) weaknesses should be an urgent topic for the incoming government in July.
