1969 Pontiac GTO 400 Ram Air IV-Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #171:

What do you think of when you hear the letters GTO? If it's speed and style, you're on the right track, and this week's Muscle Car Of The Week is long on both. This 1969 GTO Convertible is loaded with options rarely seen on these cars, and also packs a Ram Air IV 400 with a 4-speed. From The Brothers Collection.

It is worth noting that the 370hp rating is under rated. This was done to deal with a Pontiac Directive that no car exceeds one HP per 10lbs. of car weight. The reasoning behind this restriction was that insurance companies were dramatically raising the rates on "high powered cars". This under rating was acheived by "pegging" the rpm at which the HP rating was listed. They used the estimated RPM at 70mph, approximately 3900 RPM with 4.33:1 ratio rear end. At 5600 RPM the Ram Air IV actually produced 420hp and 445 lbf⋅ft of torque.
My 69 GTO has the base model 400, which is accurately rated at 350HP and 360 lbf⋅ft of torque.
Magnificent Car, thanks for sharing it with us.

There's just something about a Pontiac. Fabulous history. One of the most versatile V8s in history. My personal favorite.

My first car was a '69 GTO. That guy does a good accurate description of the car.

Stunning is right Kevin I'm in awe and to think they cut Pontiac?!!! I say put Jim Wangers in charge of GM and we would see them once again dominate the auto sector!!! His generation knew how to build an exciting automobile!!!

The ram air 4 actually pumped out 430 horsepower

The Ram Air IV produces a lot more than 370 horsepower. These engines were purposely underrated for insurance reasons. True ratings are more in the 440-450 area. Pontiac was very sneaky back then.

The Brothers are actually nearing completion of a Museum that will be semi open to the public. Their collection is the most comprehensive collection of musclecars in existence.

If the factory paint on the ‘69 goat had looked as good as the beautiful specimen in this video, PMD might still exist.

The Pontiac 400 Ram Air IV had one of the nastiest sounding idles of any engine from that era. The best high performance production engine Pontiac ever the 421 Super Duty of course

a RAM air IV in a convertible, with 4.33 gearing. Someone had deep pockets when ordering this, it wasn't cheap. They didn't care also about gas cost at the time as well.

I had a '69 Goat and didn't look nearly that good. From the looks under the hood, it appears to have manual Drum Brakes all around and no Power Steering. Cornering Lights & Power Windows but no P/S, P/B?
Mine had Power/ Front Discs but Manual Steering as well and it was bear to parallel park in the city.
