Climate protection in some countries is improving. But the world's 61 biggest emitters are failing to take action needed to stick to 1.5 degrees Celcius warming, according to the latest Climate Change Performance Index.
Developments in renewable energy expansion, climate policy and a coal phase-out offer reasons to hope, but the pace of transformation is still worryingly slow and far behind what's required to stop runaway global heating, according to this year's Climate Change Performance Index.

The top three spots on the index remained empty again this year as not a single country is on a pathway to keeping warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) — the Paris Agreement threshold for warming — according to an assessment of 60 countries plus the EU, who are collectively responsible for 90% of global CO2 emissions.

German-based NGO Germanwatch and the NewClimate Institute, which supports countries to design, evaluate and implement sustainable energy policies, publish the index yearly as a way to compare countries' climate performance using common criteria. Scientists score nations based on CO2 emissions, the percentage of renewables in the energy mix, the pace of clean expansion, and what lawmakers are doing to implement climate change policy.

Australia makes up 1.15% emissions with 0.29% of the world population
India makes up 2.89% emissions with 18.2% of the world population
Per capita, Aussie = 25.2 Indian

India is doing it's best despite being a developing economy and in dire need to upscaling it's energy output to feed it's fast growing economy

In India, climate-change deniers are almost non-existent. There's also a very high respect for Science and Scientists. Vaccine approval is also high with 80%+ in comparison to 40% of USA. India is the founding member of the global solar alliance project.

Therefore there is very high push towards renewable energy. If India gets NSG membership, future energy dependence can be put on nuclear energy.

As an Australian, please bring attention to our governments lack of action. It seems like intentional pressure is the only thing that will make our government listen.

In order to get a slightly different climate and pollution index do one on a per capita basis. Then talk about how clean European nations are today.

Norway is third on the list - Norway's economy is built on selling oil. they don't burn it themselves but they can afford to live green because someone else is burning their oil. They should include oil and coal production in their criteria. If you are putting fossil fuels on the market you are contributing to climate change.

Putin said - "You say to poors in some developing country to wait 50-60 years more to have a good life."
It's not them in developing countries who are responsible for Carbon emission & climate change,
it's developed world & their way of life.

India will do far better than this in coming days, solar energy is replacing use of fossil fuels very quickly. Modi Govt doing its best. Would request world community to make an Renewable Power exchange, where we can trade worldwide the units produced from renewable sources, no need to give any Carbon Credits, etc. Only purchase / sell the units produced from Solar / wind power stations

Hello what's the best way to get started with trade cos I've been making personal research for a while now

China... could you mention US? Their Oil industry? Their car dependent cities?

Yeah, a lot of emphasis on how is China going to reduce their emissions but even you said that the USA was more pollutant, even with a fourth of the population. So, the question is: how are thr USA going to do to reduce their exacerbated consumerism that makes them to spend the double amount of energy per habitant than Europe??

Your should calculate emission per capita, every human being should have the same human rights

here the problem ppl see carbon emission by country which isn't fair what we should care about is per capita emission this people who is pretty vocal about climate change what about your carbon footprint it's sill very high than a average indian change stats with you your extra luxury lifestyle is the problem change it westerners before preaching anyone.
