NASA's new snake-like robot designed to explore previously inaccessible destinations in our solar system. EELS has been put to the test in sandy, snowy, and icy environments to prepare it for missions on Earth, the Moon, and beyond.The robot is inspired by the desire to explore Saturn's icy moon, Enceladus, and enter its subsurface ocean.EELS is designed to autonomously sense its environment, calculate risk, travel, and gather data with science instruments.With long communication lag times in deep space, EELS is built to recover on its own when something goes wrong.
