As the influx of coal trucks to Richards Bay keeps escalating, stockpiles are popping up like mushrooms with scant regard to rules and regulations. How will the residents survive clouds of black dust permeating the air they breathe?

Force them to put plastic canopies over each truck and charge each truck a big fee to enter Richard's Bay.

Why not name the politicians making money out of the crisis. You will quickly understand why it's happening.

Richards Bay was clean when only trains transported coal into the RBCT.

I moved out of Richards Bay (and emigrated) twenty-three years ago. I was very sad to leave the town because I really loved living there! However, having watched this Carte Blanche episode I am mortified by how politics, greed and corruption have destroyed one of South Africa’s most desirable towns. What a shame. What a pity. What a crime!!

So 50, 000 trucks per month.
So I estimate 7, 000 trucks on rotation.
Licence fees of around R30, 000.00.R210 million p/a.
5000 rotations at 750l of diesel per rotation is 5.25 million liters of diesel per month. Govenment revenue/tax of around R10.00 per litre is R630 million per year.So without tolls, VAT, PAYE there is about R840 million into government coffers by these trucking companies per year. I think the roads should be maintained.

So glad this has been highlighted, but so sad that this community is being destroyed. I really hope that change can be affected before it is too late and there is no turning back. The law needs to be adhered to. At the same time, this once beautiful coastal town, needs to be restored, for health and environmental reasons.

Clearly the politicans and heavy hitters trying to intercede on behalf of the company have their fingers in this extremely lucrative pie. In South Africa ALWAYS follow the money. Why this simple thing does not happen defies comprehension because if the relevant authorities investigated these sort of obviously corrupt business dealings South Africa would not be where it is today ... in a state of complete collapse!

It is a shame that court orders are just ignored and Lawers support this kind of pollution. Where are thier ethics. Like the Gupta's, they obviously have political connections. I grew up in Empangeni to see this gross black mess of Richards Bay, once know for it's very Clean environment, breaks my heart. The sooner we vote out the ANC, the sooner the rail road system will come right. Trucks are by far not the answer to transport coal.

Very sad to see our town go backwards like this. It’s in our faces daily. What can we do. No one listens. It’s so sad and depressing. And they don’t care
