I am a cradle Orthodox. My father was a monk for 11 years. He was 3 months away from finishing his minor vows. He planned taking his final vows and becoming a monk for life. However he was drafted into the Vietnam War. Since he hadn't taking his final vows yet. So he had to go to war by law. His spiritual father told him it was God's will and calling for his life. After the war my father met my mother at church fell in love and started a family. My parents ran a homeless shelter for 34 years. God be the glory and peace be the journey ✨️ 🙏

Damn bros aura shows. Like, he looks like he could walk down an Elden Ring boss and it's the boss who is scared.

To the orthodox homies, you guys have the most beautiful churches and best music as well. I don’t know how y’all stand for 3 hours for mass but damn, you people are dedicated. Much love from the Catholic side.

Through God's grace we had the unique experience of sharing our home with two Great Schema monks for almost two years...and then we lived beside their monastery for 12 years. And yes, they are really like angels. They earned their living by candle making, and painting icons. They sacrificed almost 20 yrs of their monastic lives to live amongst and serve the people in the community.
They gave up their routine for 12 months to build us a home. 6 days a week, for a year....I can't begin to describe their sacrificial lives of pure love for " the neighbour". After 20 yrs, they returned to solitude ...not isolation . Yes, we had a very rare relationship with these true saints.
Our lives will never be the same. Nor will the lives of so many who met them.

I was raised Greek Orthodox, it truly is a beautiful religion. If anyone who can open their heart and attend a Orthodox Church will truly be taken by the beauty, symbolism, and comfort by it. It is a second home for us.

One who has attained the Megaloschemos has spent decades in strict asceticism under the guide of a spiritual elder, killing his passions and becoming perfected through discipline and prayer. Extended periods of fasting, physical labors, long nights in prayer with little to no sleep, daily holy services, hours upon hours of noetic prayer. These are true prayer warriors, men and women pure of heart who went unto voluntary extreme poverty and hardship to save themselves and us through repentance and great humility.
From an Orthodox Christian. Cheers ☦️

To all the ignorant people that mock this great man this is a Megaloschemos monk from the Greek word "Μεγαλοσχημος" and it's the greatest rank a monk can have after years of spiritual struggle. This man has no passions, no lust for anything, he's completely free and he lives and breathes for Christ and Christ only. The robe that he wears has holy symbols on it that protects him from demon attacks, Orthodox Christianity is the ultimate truth !

Men like these fight the devil and his demons every hour of everyday. ☦️

All monks are Schemas. He is a Megaloschemos, or a "Great Monk." I am Orthodox, I live in this faith.

People that are upset that they’re mocking him…they mocked Christ too…please don’t take it personal. Love them where they are and pray for them.

Beautiful. I paused this and just looked at him for a while. I marvel at what he must be like. And the recognition that others monks had about him so that he was given that task.
I didn't realize that those coverings were red. As the Church celebrates feast days of matyrs with red vestments. But their whole lives are of martyrdom in a way. An absolute sscrifice.. Those who don't understand make shallow comments. Those who do understand anything of their designation are sobered at the sight of them and marvel.. Though they are rarely seen, to see them is to be sobered and humbled anf gratrful since they pray for the whole world

I’m a Catholic and that is totally awesome ❤ much love from your western brothers
Hmmmmmmmm
It's sad that many Protestants misunderstand the monastic life :/ Many Protestants don't even know that Christianity has had monks and nuns since early Christianity😭 it is such a beautiful calling from God. Some monastics are out in the world sharing the faith, but some pray for the world behind closed doors living in complete detachment and humility.
I'm a Catholic, and while I'm not called to the monastic life, I've always admired it. I believe there are many virtues lay people can learn from them. Ave Christus Rex❤️

Hi Malvi, I’m 62 yrs old and had never heard of these particular monks before. You really do learn something new every day! Thank you for the interesting history lesson ❤ Sending best wishes your way from Las Vegas 😊
