What to Know about Nsaids and Elderly

Показать описание
I want to talk about pain today and what to know about (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Nsaids and elders. I see many, many doctors giving elders long term prescriptions of Motrin or Naproxen, they don't think Tylenol does enough. But I'm here to tell you that long term use of Motrin or Naproxen is definitely riskier than long term use of low dose Norco.
Yeah, you heard that right. So a half a tablet of the lowest dose Norco as long as you treat for constipation, often relieves serious arthritis pain. The naproxen and Motrin increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, stomach bleeds, high blood pressure and heart failure.
So are Nsaids safe for elderly? That is not safer for elders. You need to talk to a geriatrician.

If this is the first time you watch my videos, I am Dr Liz and I am a board-certified geriatric specialist. Over the years I have worked with thousands of families from all over the country to help elders through the aging process. Families are typically in crisis and don’t know where to turn when loved ones have dementia, Alzheimer’s, medication problems, or any complications from aging. I feel we must take away medications that “zombify” our elders and adjust meds to get our loved ones back to the happy, productive people they once were. Do you have questions or concerns? Don’t panic. Dr Liz Geriatrics is your resource for everything and anything you need to know about aging. I am so glad you stopped by and remember we are here to help.
