Steve Nancy fans are saying that Jonathan is breaking up with her anyway, but Nancy doesn't knows that. So if she does something with Steve behind Jonathan's back, it's all on her. Jonathan wants to break up because he thinks he'll slow down Nancy. It's not as if he has fallen out of love. So if she does something stupid it would still break his heart.

I hope that the Duffers will follow the logical's perspective (obvious outcome) rather than the path started in season 4: I love the character of Steve and he has a great redemption arc but I don't understand the desire to reestablish a messed up love triangle that had been resolved halfway through the first season (even when she was still dating him, Nancy clearly didn't give a damn about Steve). There has been pretty much zero chemistry between Nancy and Steve since the beginning of the series while the bonding of Jonathan and Nancy's relationship between season 1 and 3 was spectacular.
