The issue is...
The genie was transforming into random people in the crowd to talk about Aladdin and make it seem like he was already famous.
Also, in the original Aladdin fed on the attention because he loved it. He wasn't awkward. He was comfortable with finally being the center of adoration for once.
The animated movie did what it did for REASONS.
To flesh out the characters.
To give them energy and charisma.
Don't try to be realistic in a fairytale

Everyone has already mentioned the lack of energy during this song so I decided I'll elaborate on some other problems.
1. Aladdin's lack of charisma. Look at the original, when Aladdin is first introduced, he has a giant smile on his face, this guy looks like he's about to cry. When he sees the woman, the original shows off his muscles and blows them a kiss. This guy gives a shy wave. Which of these two seems to be there better prince?
2. Why isn't Genie interacting with the crowd? He's just walking in the front. By interacting with the crowd and constantly turning into other people, he helps keep the energy flowing.

I agree that the orignal version is more energetic and lively but I will also say this: I like this version as well. Will Smith is trying his best and I hope the rest of the film will as well.

Song sounds better if you go to your parents house, go up to the attic, pull out the box labelled 'kids stuff', dig to the bottom, find Aladdin vhs tape, get in your car, goto the thrift store, buy a vhs player, go home, set up vhs player, take out Aladdin tape, blow on it, put it in the player, press play, fast forward to this song and play it at normal speed.
