The losses have piled up for people in China’s Qingyuan, a city of about four million people in Guangdong province, which has been swamped by devastating floods.

Since last Thursday, Guangdong has been battered by powerful storms, ushering in an earlier start to the province’s annual flooding season that normally begins in May.

“Everything’s gone. All the seedlings are gone,” said one farmer, Huang Jingrong.

“It’s all flooded, flooded beyond repair,” he told Reuters, estimating his losses at $13,806 USD.

Guangdong province is a key exporter, and one of China’s major commercial hubs. The region has major downpours and strong winds for several days now.

China 🇨🇳 has been doing deforestation, water diversion, and mega dam construction for decades.
- That's why China is experiencing so many unusual natural disasters.

For the last 50 years China had made a tremendous development long the river banks being over populated without considering the low areas are meant for water flow for rains & overflow of Dam max level opennings....ourselves to blame as for being too smart to fight with the nature to change direction. Many high rise buildings in limited place with over population will also be a waiting list of disaster to happen. When the area is overpopulated most of the community will not be civic minded being the main course of logging drainage & vast development squeezing the water flow areas. Many countries with high rise buildings will be facing the same.

I have lived in Guangdong and seen flooding there, but I don't think it was ever this bad. The flooding that I saw was in the Pearl River Delta (I lived in Shunde), somewhat lower down than Qingyuan, which is the city in the images. I seem to remember river ferries to and from Hong Kong being cancelled or diverted owing to flooding in the Delta.

Dam! Did they seed the clouds there too?!?! Or maybe it’s just normal climate change?

China accounted for 2/3 of new global coal plant capacity in 2023.
- China built 70 GW of new coal-power capacity last year, almost 20 times the rest of the world's 3.7 GW combined.
