Why Everyone is a DEMON in Deathmatch (but not in ranked)

I wanted to talk about why it's easy to frag out in Deathmatch but hard to play well in ranked. Do you suffer from ranked anxiety?

The advice that I always give to myself.

Have fun and trust your aim and yourself. Don't think about your rank. All that matters is that you JUST HAVING FUN. If you are not having fun, then it's not worth playing the game anymore.

Also, if you're friends have a higher rank than you, and are making you feel inferior. Don't think about it. Everyone grows at a different rate. Your friend might take 10 games to reach Radiant, maybe you'll take 30, but at the end of the day, you'll reach your goal, and along with having fun, thats all that matters. Never compare your achievements to the achievements of others, thats a crime you are committing against yourself. Always believe in yourself and push forward, and again, have FUN.

i had a game where i accidentally entered a comp game with a friend when we thought it was unrated and we ended up stopping them 13-5 and we weren't taking the game super seriously and just having fun. it was super funny when we saw the our ranked increased, we were like "That was comp?". maybe we played better because we felt that nothing was at stake. also great video love how you address the cause of why im trash instead of the symptoms. 10/10

usually when my teammates have a great vibe I play better rather then the sweaty ones criticising every move

I think in ranked you are kinda scared about losing and miss your shots in ranked but in deathmatch no ranked pressure and just go godly mode in my opinion, sir.

I think this video brings up a really important point that I'd like to elaborate on, which is that aim, especially the better your aim is, is mostly mental. Your confidence, anxiety level, and your aiming habits. It's very important to keep a stable mental to keep your aim consistent. For example, if you go in a deathmatch, and you whiff two easy shots in a row, you'll probably lift your head to the sky, scrunch your eyes, and take an inhale of pure, but brewing, anger. What you're doing in that moment, without even thinking or saying a word, is saying something like "Wow, I am so bad, I can't aim, " etc. This will reduce your confidence, and in turn, your focus. One thing I've found out playing this game, at least in my experience, is that confidence is synonymous with first shot accuracy; the lower your confidence, the lower your FSA and the higher chance you will crouch spray. This is why you see people like Aproto just smoothly tap heads all the time, because he's clear-headed, focused, and confident, so he retains his good aim habits (crosshair placement, not shooting until on the head), his focus, etc. By the same token, this may also be the reason why you see mechanical-god aimers like Aproto, TenZ, etc. have bad aim games, because the aiming in this game is extremely punishing, especially for not hitting your first shot, and the mental pileup that can happen over the course of two or three rounds can fuck you up for the entire game.

Simply by reacting negatively to a whiff, you are simultaneously telling yourself you're bad at aiming, lowering your confidence, clouding your focus and your judgement, and decreasing your first shot accuracy. It's important to create a plan / mindset for yourself to stick to every day so that you can keep your confidence, focus, and therefore aim stable and consistent perpetually.

I never really thought I had ranked anxiety. Started vod reviewing my gameplay and found that i play way too passively and it's just a sub-conscious thing especially since i solo queue..

Okay something crazy something to me recently. I played Deathmatch and the person that got first place ACTUALLY HOPPED INTO A RANKED GAME AT THE EXACT SAME TIME AS ME. We got into a game together and I thought he was going to play like a beast. I was telling our teammates how I just played with this guy in Deathmatch and that he will carry us. However, we lost and he ended up bottom fragging. Maybe he felt stressed out from all the pressure but it just proves that this video is very accurate.

I like that you cover the aspects that no one else talks about. These are some really informative videos

And then there's me who is more accurate and focused in actual ranked games than in deathmatch because constantly dying from behind in Deathmatch annoys me while I gather information and know where enemies should be in Ranked. Also the fact I focus on more things makes me not overthink my aim.

I started trusting my aim. I lost. A lot. Then I actually started to improve and ranked up from silver and peaked d1.

I've recently been playing a warmup game in unranked before I play como instead of jumping from dm warmup to comp and I feel it helps remove a lot of pressure I feel playing in comp

I have this problem and I noticed more when I play in unrated I just became a demon

When I first started playing Valorant I would only play deathmatch and when I started normal games my score was drastically worse. There's also the timer that pressures you into making questionable plays, along with teammate pressure

Yes this video makes so much sense
when you play in a deathmatch there is no problem if you die and lose but if you lose in comp you are scared of losing your rank which you worked hard on. This is a problem unless your trying to go esports your main objective in any game should be to have fun and not win

this issue needed to be addressed. Thanks best Valorant Youtuber man on the internet, very cool.

this observation is definitely universal

players who are new and actively trying to play fighting games at a more competent level often complain about how things they practice and can execute with regularlity against a bot in the training room are much, much harder to execute on another actual player. confidence drops, hands hesitate, and thus combos get dropped and setups get floundered. and this continues until the player's mindset changes, when they fear the opponent less and gain confidence in their practiced skills

i sort of noticed this intuitively when i play valorant or league and i think ive pseudo-confirmed it by making ample use of the mute functions in those games. other players are a constant source of stress and distraction, even from well-meaning players. recognizing your current limits and adjusting them by muting people who distract and stress you out works wonders. im top fragging with greater regularity without even noticing because im thinking more about the match and what's going wrong and less about my team mates and what they think of me
