I work in a nursing home and there’s several residents that have to drink thick water. They also have to have their food made into mush like baby food because of the fact they can’t eat or drink anything regularly.

It actually for people having trouble of swallowing regular liquids that they choke on causing problems in their lungs. I use to worked in a nursing home where we have to give this to a good amount of people who have problems drinking.

My Dad had ALS. Towards the end he had to have liquids thickened to aid in swallowing. Pretty much it’s for those that can’t swallow, thickening aids the liquid in going down easier.

I think that’s one of the smartest things they ever made, many people chock on regular water because it’s too watery so by thickening the water it would definitely help avoid or lower the chances of aspiration.

I wish more able bodied people understood that not everyone is the same as them and sometimes have to do things differently, including having thick water because they have difficulty swallowing

when my grandmother got her second stroke, and went to hospital, there was a powder we used in her water to thicken it up. just hearing dysphagia brought back the memories

My grandma needs this so I have little packets that I mix into her drink. She doesn’t like them very much but it prevents her from coughing and getting sore throats.

I’m a nursing student. We give this to patients who are recovering from strokes and other issues. I love the way that Milad knows what we use it for, but the other nursing students didn’t know that.

I worked as a dietary aid in a nursing home and had to use thickener for many of the different drinks. There is more than just thick water, there is also juice, icecream, soups, ext. You can mix thickener in with anything, and a lot of people who were on thickener also ate food pured and baked into a souffle.

Try adding thickener in some juice, loses all the taste

Its also useful for people with texture issues :) one of my cousins is autistic and his mum mixes a bit of this in juice to change the texture

We use it a lot in the nursing homes. Believe it or not it’s easier to swallow things that are thicker like applesauce so it’s just thick water really.

I have something similar too dysphasia, I have had it for over a year and I am only 16. It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me and has really been the downfall of my life this past year.

My moms papa had to drink thick water in his final days and everyone knew that. One of his final wants was to just have normal water that’s not thick and no one would let him/ weren’t allowed to give him normal water.
