Plane collides with towing vehicle at LaGuardia Airport

There was a scare on the tarmac at LaGuardia Airport early Tuesday morning.

Speed was probably a factor in this that appears to be an extremely sharp turn attempt.

Seen videos and pics of the aftermath (AA proprietary) and this aircraft was VERY damaged from this incident. The damage goes all the way under the central fuel tank, very far back. Fwd cargo door has damage even. Tons of paint trade. Gonna be one hell of a month in the hangar with this one

Classic sheer pin break. Can't remember 737 tow limits, but looks like something sheered when he made that sharp turn.

When the tug becomes detached from the aircraft, the one thing you don't do is stop. He was towing too fast and he turned to sharp. Most likely the shear pins broke on the tow bar. Looks like it's back to the 7-11 for him.

Turn was too sharp and snapped the sheer pin, chances are he’s fired bcuz of this. That’s why ppl don’t like to tow smh

That is not a super tug, it looks like a regular pushback tug. While it can tow usually tow is done with a bigger tug, hence supertugs do not use towbars they lift the front wheels off the ground. My question is why didn't the brake rider hit the brakes asap. Normal SOP requires tug operator and cockpit be in communication at all times.

Were the plane and tug braking systems working?
No one was in the plane. The plane could have drifted in any diretion
It was avoidable. It could be fatal

Maurice DuBois, That’s not a super tug… That’s a regular push back tug that the gates use…

As someone else said, the tug is a regular push back tug, not a supertug. Supertugs tow aircraft without tow bars.

Tug pulled the plane too fast so that the momentum of the plane rush into the tug…basic physic, guys!
