thanks for this video. My wife hates the fluorescent fixture we have in the kitchen and I am not an electrician, but I am pretty handy. This cleared up a lot of my hesitation with taking on this task, so thank you.

Nice video here is how I think you can improve: When you say positive, negative, and ground it can be confusing versus industry standard jargon:
-Black is hot/live (sends electrical current )
-White is neutral ( completes the electrical circuit )
-Bare/Green is ground ( gives current a safe place to go in case of a ground fault )

When you say negative it isn't the wire that is negative but rather the terminal on the voltage source that is negative. The hot wire connects to the negative terminal. Same thing with the live wire and positive terminals.

Hopefully this helps your content improve in quality. Have a great day!

First of all I want to thank you for even doing the video. Secondly, thank you for risking your life with doing it with one hand. I just hate the light fixture in my beautiful kitchen which is like the one you changed. You have no idea how grateful me and others like me needed this video specially on this fixture here. I was able to see exactly what it is I need to do. Thank you soooo

Trolls are never happy.
Every how-to video I've ever made gets the Expert-Troll, with his "thumbs down" telling me how to do and ya have to wonder why an expert is searching Youtube for how-to videos.... LOL
The worst ones are "product reviews. If you ever make one of these and you're honest about it and the product sucks.... look out. It's a feeding-ground for trolls who know their canned-ravioli!

Anyway- thanks for this video. When I took this apart I discovered a serious fir-hazard waiting to happen.

Its always a good thing to wrap electrical tape around the wire nuts for added safety 👌

Hi Scott, thanks for this video. I felt pretty confident after viewing it that I could change out the fixture in my closet. However... I don't see any ground wire coming from the house, only the positive and negative wires. I see a green wire on the fixture, but I don't know what I'm supposed to attach it to since there are only two wires coming out of the wall (it's going on the vertical wall above the closet door). What do I do?

Those little plastics that is suppose to grip, with the little screws that came with the strip light was a waste of my good time, I had to go with the toggle bolts

If I'm taking down a florescent light fixture that I'm replacing, but need to paint the ceiling first, do I need to secure the bare ends of the wires with electrical tape in the meantime during the painting? Light switch will stay off of course, but, for extra safety?

i couldn't figure out the copper ground wire that came with the strip light, how to connect to the house ground wire, I didn't know if I was to pigtail it with the strip light copper ground wire or what to do. I see that I should just throw it away and connect the house copper ground wire to that strip light ground screw, correct?

I am installing an old fixture that has no ground screw, so I am going to salvage one from somewhere else.

Since you have open the chamber to access ballast, it will be easy to cut wire to ballast and convert the light to LED light without replacing the whole fixture. It will be a lot easier.

Just to be clear black is positive, White is Neutral and ground is green or bare copper wire.
